Learning is a great fun. What a Preschool does?  It makes it happen for our young kids. A question hovers in everyone’s mind  ,” Is Preschool necessary?” “What if we don’t send our child to a Preschool?” “Are there any new things that a child learns which he can’t learn at home?” This article tries to answer all such questions. Skills are needed for any human being to succeed. What kind of Skills do the modern day Preschools impart?, Let’s list them and try to understand.

Eleven skills that a Preschool Imparts:

Following are the major skills that a child learns at  a Preschool.

Writing, Recognizing Letters of  the language being studied, Relating mother tongue with the language of studies, Sounds of letters being read, Number recognition and counting, Shapes and colors, Social skills , Fine motor skills, Cutting and pasting pictures and papers to get the desired things, Reading and getting ready for reading and the most important skill of Following directions and showing attention to whatever is imparted to a child. These 11 skills that a child gets from a Preschool are the foundations for his school learning and for his further life. The child getting into a  Preschool is a clean slate and Preschool ensures to draw out the best picture on that slate.

 

1. Writing

Writing is an important part of Learning. A child in a Preschool gets to know how to hold a pencil or pen to write the things and express himself. It is the foremost skill that a child gets in a Preschool or a Kindergarten. The teachers of a Preschool make the children hold their pencils with their help. Its the Preschool which has been provided with the responsibility of making the child able to write their first words. 

2. Recognizing letters of the language being studied.

The child in a preschool learns to recognize letters of the language being studied. He learns that the letters being studied are the basic things which make up a word.

3. Sound of Letters

The child gets to know that different letters sound different. He/she dances and sings poems and rhymes  and thereby get to know that all the letters sound a little different from one another. The child in a preschool learns the very basics of phonics, rhythms and symphony.

4. Relating Mother tongue with the Medium of Studies

It is the Preschool which lets a child know how to relate his/ her mother tongue or a local language with language or medium of studies.The very basic skill which every child needs who has a different mother tongue then the medium of studies in the school system.

5. Number Recognition and Counting.

Number recognition is one of the main skills that a child needs to have. Number recognition and counting are done at home, no doubt, but at school, the peer learning enables children to differentiate numbers from languages. Number recognition does not include shapes of Mathematics, but the skill of numbers only. How to earn the numbers and learn them.

6. Shapes and Colors

The child in a preschool uses a variety of art tools like crayons construction paper and colored pencils. He/she learns a few colors. He/ she learns to draw certain figures having resemblance to the real pictures and objects. 

7. Social Skills

Under social skills the child initiates and maintains independent play, enjoys doing things by his/her own for example: reading, doing crafts. He/ she learns to separate from you for several hours. He/ she  appears interested in going to be a big kid and going to school daily. Learns new things, meets new friends, enjoys participating and group activities. He/ she can express emotions, needs, can send requests,  responds well to consistent routines such as a quiet time or a nap time. He/ she learns to anticipate, what comes next during the day?

8. Fine Motor Skills

The child increases efficiency in gross motor skills. He/ she  strength and  balance such as jumping, standing on one foot, running. He/She develops motor coordination like navigating around obstacles, rides, tricycles. He/she tries to run to kick a stationary ball, improve hand eye coordination while playing with building blocks for simple puzzles, improve pencil control by using fingers rather than whole fist. He/she begins to show right hand left hand sides.

9. Cutting and Pasting Pictures

Cutting and pasting here refers to all those skills which drive a child towards learning of concepts. It includes matching like objects, arranging and classifying similar objects and pasting them to their sorts.

10. Reading and getting ready for reading more

In a Preschool, the child learns to hold book properly and turn pages. He/she understands that words convey the message in a story. He/She  recognize the first letter of their own name and then all other letters. He/ she get to know some letter names. The child  knows about the main characters in family stories. He/she enjoys reading books with others.

11. Following Directions and Showing attention

The child at a home is a prince or a princess, but at a preschool he/she learns  for the first time that how to earn things by following directions from their elders. They learn to follow which helps them in their further course of studies and life. The children in preschool learn how to show attention and when to do so. They are attention seekers, but they need to attend to some very important things. this is what they learn from a Preschool

To conclude we can say that a Preschool not only enables the young kids for schools, but also provide them basic foundations so that they may not falter in their future life.
