Our Bakloh

Our Bakloh is a small and sweet place having expansion of just 15 kilometer. It is a Cantonment area primarily. But the area surrounding it has a lot of places to explore. Places to visit at Bakloh are a few, but are worth visiting. Bakloh a historic place more valued by British Officers before India’s independence is not much valued at present. But Nature has been very biased for our place and it has continued to provide the picturesque scenery and environment to Bakloh. Bakloh is as good a place as any other hill station located at Himachal Pradesh. As such Bakloh has very few places to explore which have been detailed below.

1. Chillama Helipad

The Chillama Helipad is a good place to spend a small part of your evening. It is a clean and cool place to be . The Chillama helipad is only 2 kilometer away from the Bakloh Bus stand and has a Helipad area along with a small Temple of Lakhdata Baba ji. The place is administered by Indian army and recently a small children park has also been developed near to it. The helipad is famous for the annual Chillama fair which is organized on the first Sunday of July every year. At this time of the year Bakloh itself finds the most number of visitors to the place.

A small temple with some very old memories is on the way to the Chillama Helipad. It is a temple built by the Gorkha regiment in the Pre Independence era of India. It is visited by the locals during annual fair of Guru GorakhNath Yatra on 19th April every year.

3. Kalika Mata Temple.

The Temple of Kali Mata at Bakloh is a famous temple of the area. It is visited by almost every person who visits Bakloh. It is an old temple with the temples of Kali Mata, Durga mata, Lord Shiva, and  Guru Gorakh Nath ji. It is the highest point of Bakloh too. It is in army area and has a lot of disciples from all around the nation. The Gorkha Sabha takes care of the temple and its assets.

4. Bakloh Bazar

The 2/4 bazar and the 1/4 bazar are the famous old markets of Bakloh. Though they have lost their sheen with the passing days, but one can find the historical Bakloh while visiting these markets. All the day to day items are easily available at the 2 markets situated separately . The 1/4 bazar is much bigger then the 2/4 bazar.

5. St. Oswald's Church

One of the oldest and most beautiful Church of North India is the Saint Oswald’s Church. It is located in army area of Bakloh. Having a cool surroundings, the old church is well maintained. Though it burnt in forest fire recently, but it’s shape has been retained, and is still a favorite destination for any tourist who comes to Bakloh. More about it can be explained only if you visit this holy place.

6. Kakira

Kakira is the main market of Bakloh. Though it is a separate township near to Bakloh, but has a close association with Bakloh. It is the main market and people of Bakloh rely on this market for their shopping. Some big and reliable shops are at Kakira from long time. The Rameshwaram Temple, The GSSS Kakira, newly built Nursing college are the main places of Kakira in addition to its market.

7. Ghatasani

Ghatasani is a nice and cool place, a village located in the peripheri of Bakloh. It is a small village surrounded with Pine trees. The main attraction of the place is Jwala Mata temple and two forest rest houses (Himachal and Punjab) signifying the fact that in the yester years, Bakloh was in Punjab. The cool breeze coming out of the pine trees make people reach at evening time and early mornings for their evening and morning walks. The tall pine trees and greenery all around is fascinating and soothing to the eyes.

8. Lokeshwar Temple

Lokeshwar Temple is a temple of Bakloh which shows Bakloh’s association with Nepal. The architecture and location of the temple is its main highlight. Lokeshwar Temple is a Temple of Lord Vishnu . Also there are temples of Lord Shiva and Lord Hanuman. It is located at about 1 km from the Bakloh Bus Stand on the way to Ghatasani from Kakira. It is a beautiful temple of Bakloh. The Lokeshwar Temple is also taken care of by Gorkha Sabha.  

Annual Bhandara and fair are organized at the temple. The Lokeshwar fair comprises of small shops and wrestling competition organized by Mela (Fair) committee. The annual Bhandara is organized by the Gorkha sabha with the help of some local people. Tasty lunch in the form of Dham is prepared on the occasion and served to hundreds of devotees.

Once you are at Bakloh, do visit these beautiful places. Being at Bakloh is a boon.  Many other places are also there at Bakloh which haven’t been mentioned as they don’t need big chunk of time for your visit. A good quality camera will definitely suffice your visit to Bakloh as Bakloh is the photographer’s paradise. It is a place free of pollution and the lenses of your camera will definitely click some beautiful memories for you from the place. The serene surroundings and cool breezes passing though the tall pines are the biggest highlights of Bakloh. The natives of Bakloh are loving and affectionate. Being at Bakloh do explore our place.
